Dance Coach Policy

Due to the limited supply in the Ottawa region of a qualified male dance teacher, and the limited ice time on which our dance coach is available, the Goulbourn Skating Club (the “Club”) Executive approves the following policy pertaining to the dance coach:

  1. Prior to the start of each skating season (Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer) the Executive Member in charge of coaches (the “Coach Designate”) shall prepare a list of skaters requiring dance lessons from the dance coach, together with a list of dances on which they are currently working (the “Dance List”). The Coach Designate must provide the Dance List to the dance coach, with a copy to the Executive, on or before two (2) weeks before each skating session starts.

  2. The Coach Designate shall confirm the attendance of the dance coach on the skating sessions on or before two (2) weeks prior to the start of each skate season.

  3. For a consecutive three (3) week period leading up to test day, those dancers testing at the designated test day will be given priority for lessons with the dance coach, in the following order:
    1. skaters testing Diamond dances;
    2. skaters testing Gold dances;
    3. skaters testing Senior Silver dances;
    4. skaters testing Junior Silver dances;
    5. skaters testing Senior Bronze dances;
    6. skaters testing Junior Bronze dances; and
    7. skaters testing Preliminary dances.

  4. A skater must be partnered by a male dance coach for Senior Bronze dances and up. If the dance coach does not have sufficient time to teach all skaters registered for that session, then regular coaches will teach their skaters the Preliminary and Junior Bronze dances, and the skaters’ regular coaches or Senior skaters will partner such Preliminary and Junior Bronze dances on test day.

  5. Any coaches seeking to have their skaters skate on additional skate sessions prior to test day to have time with a dance coach must comply with the Guest Skate Rules and Policies, clear the attendance on such ice session with the Registrar prior to such attendance, and pay the applicable Guest Fee.
